Beautiful Villages of Ribeira Sacra: Os Peares

We are obviously biased but almost daily Steve and I marvel at how beautiful Ribeira Sacra is. This is why we chose to live here. The area is packed with villages of outstanding beauty perched high on river banks. Recently we visited Os Peares – a mountain village just off the national road N-120 between Monforte de Lemos and Ourense, merely 20 min drive from out house.

I read in the papers that a new bridge is being built to make access for villagers easier as Os Peares sits on river banks of three (!) rivers. Currently one side of the village is completely cut off from another and directly accessible only by foot on the path along train line. New bridge is due to be completed in September, and I bet villagers will have a big celebration to mark such event!

Os Peares is very popular with walkers and holidaymakers looking for tranquil nature breaks. Here’s a bit more of Os Peares. Enjoy!
