Back in May, on one of these moody days, when clouds are fighting with sun for power, we jumped in a car and decided to drive around. Ribeira Sacra is full of wonderful places of visit, and even though we have been living here for nearly three years, we still haven’t seen it all.
Because we are blessed with many rivers, the biggest ones being Minho and Sil, are due to the dramatic landscape, a stunning view can be in front of you behind any corner. Even from our house we can reach both rivers within 5 to 20 minutes.
To allow visitors to enjoy these views in full, Galician government (Xunta de Galicia) built miradoiros (viewing points) for special beauty spots.
We didn’t plan to visit anything in particular, but somehow we ended up in front of two miradoiros within minutes from each other, and I must admit, these must be the most beautiful ones, if not the most dramatic ones only for the access. A kind of large balconies were built into the rocks, hanging above the river Sil. They were designed by award-winning architects, and it shows.
I leave you with these stunning miradoiros – the two of many special places of Ribeira Sacra and Galicia. Dordogne, eat your heart out!
